Ray of Hope

Ray of Hope (Emergency/Crisis) Grants for Families in New Castle, Kent & Sussex counties in the State of Delaware.

Ray of Hope Ray of Hope Grants was created to address the need for support and financial assistance during times of emergency or crisis due to personal hardships, major loss of property or home or medical emergencies. Grants may be awarded to assist with costs associated with daily living expenses, food, clothing, housing, medical care, prescriptions, funeral expenses, travel expenses, daycare, etc. and other events or items as deemed eligible by the Grant Committee on a case-by-case basis.

WHO MAY APPLY: Families who reside in New Castle, Kent or Sussex counties in the State of Delaware, who have one or more children who is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger’s Syndrome or any of the other related pervasive developmental disorders (Rett Syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD) or Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS))* and have experienced one or more unforeseen emergencies within the previous sixty (60) days, which has caused a financial hardship.

REQUESTS: Grants of up to $750 are available and requests may be submitted if the family has experienced one or more of the following unforeseen emergencies within the previous sixty (60) days:

Personal Hardships

  • Death of an immediate family member (travel expenses, funeral expenses, etc.)
  • Injury or critical illness of an immediate family member
  • Loss of job or income
  • Victim of a violent crime

Major Loss of Property or Home

  • Loss of Property due to a burglary or natural disaster such as a fire, flood or hurricane.
  • Loss of home/primary residence due to foreclosure, eviction or natural disaster.

Medical Emergencies

  • Necessities that may not be covered by health insurance (medical equipment, medical products, home health services, prescriptions, supplements)

* Documentation (a physician’s letter or other proof) of an ASD or other PDD diagnosis is required and must be submitted along with a completed application.

Financial need of the individual’s family will be evaluated and documented through information provided on the application.

Payments are made directly to the vendor providing the services. Ray of Hope Awards will not exceed $750 per family. Families may apply only once a year.

DEADLINE: Applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis. Deadline for submission of an application is the 15th of each month. Applications postmarked by the 15th of the month will be considered in that month. Applications received after the 15th will be considered in the following month. Application review and funding determinations will be made by a Grant Committee of the Board of Directors. Submission of an application does not guarantee funding.

NOTIFICATION: Acknowledgements and notification of the status of an application will be sent to all applicants by email or telephone no later than the 1st of the following month. For those applicants who are awarded grants, every effort will be made to forward payment to the vendors within two (2) weeks of approval.

Families may apply only once per year.
